From humble beginnings

DX Hosting has a long history. Starting out as a group of friends running a server for themselves, it quickly grew as more and more people wanted to take advantage of the cheap webspace we had (as we were originally selling to friends, we sold at cost). Nowadays, DX Hosting has many customers, ranging from the original personal sites we hosted to large community forums for games such as EVE Online, accomodation letting businesses and amateur radio website.

Why DX?

DX has a two-fold meaning. The staff of DX Hosting are both keen amateur radio enthusiasts, and 'DX' is a common amateur radio term. DX is also a common abbreviation for deluxe, of which we felt our service was.

What about the staff?

There are two main people in DX Hosting: Chris Northwood (2E0NTW), the General Manager, and Royce Hunt (M0RHI), the Commercial Manager. Between us we handle the running of our equipment and handling our customers. There are no anonymous call centres or e-mails here!

However, we also have emergency staff on standby who also assist with customer enquiries: Phil Holton, Chris Smith, Shane McCormack and Michael Nixon. Reliability of service is our number 1 priority

What's so special?

Unlike many other companies, we actually own our own equipment, powered by AMD 64-bit processors. You can view the specifications of our shared customer server on the shared customer server infosite.

Also, unlike many companies, we use the latest software available to us. Exim and ClamAV scan your e-mail for any nasties, Apache 2.2 (whilst many companies still use 1.3), PHP 5.1 (which offers many advanced features, especially object orrientation - check your existing hosting, it'll probably be PHP 4) and MySQL 4.1 (it is not uncommon to be using an ancient MySQL 3.28 install!) offers us a unique and distinct advantage for anyone looking to develop and deploy their own web-based applications on our server.

Why so cheap?

DX Hosting does not run for profit. Every single penny earned from the business is invested back into it, covering our monthly rent and preparing for the future by allowing us to constantly expand our network.

Still, if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact Chris or Royce via the contact page!.
